How to setup a commercial aquaponics system

In his video I show the commercial aquaponics system setup at our training center.

The lady who owns this system has paid around $60,000 for this setup. Unfortunately, as you can see from the video, she doesn’t do much with it other than grow some weeds!

When I was interviewing Phil Reasons on the Aquaponics For Everyone Podcast he said one of the mistakes people make is thinking aquaponic systems are a set it and forget it type of thing.  In reality, this is another form of farming and it needs to be treated that way.

To take this setup and really get it moving to its full potential we would need to have someone working full time seeding and harvesting everyday, checking on things, keeping grass and weed seeds out of the system, etc.

If you wanted to go the commercial route, his is a great setup!

You’ll see a lot of cool things in the setup from air lift pumps that pump all the water to the media grow beds to bell siphons that drain all the media beds to the DWC raft troughs.

There are a couple troughs growing fish food and you’ll see a solid lifts overflow that sucks solids from the bottom of the troughs and sends them down to the sump tank.

Let me know what you think!
